Top Ten of 2005

1. Star Wars (the entire six movie set which we sat and watched, with the final episode in the theater. More of a cultural experience than a great movie, but I did really enjoy that final movie.)
2. Capote (Just really enjoyed the movie and the book-In Cold blood.)
3. History of Violence (tight-well made movie.)
4. Hotel Rwanda (so moving.. love Don Cheadle... I know, technically, this was 2004 but i didn't see it till this year.)
5. Syriana (As much for the political intensity as the drama... but it was also a really good movie.)
6. The Constant Gardner (I love this director. City of God was my top movie of 2004 and this was a totally different film but with a lot of the same great directing.)
7. Match Point (My favorite all time Woody Allen movie. Really good acting, great plot. Much like History of Violence, in that it is a story that has been told before but this is just a really tight well-done rendition.)
8. Sin City (The testosterone laden boy in me brought this onto the list. Really engaged by the stylistic art of this movie. The most comic-book faithful movie there has been.)
9. Good Night and Good Luck. (Again a movie that made it mostly for its politics, but it was also a great performance by David Straithairn.)
10. Wedding Crashers (Funniest movie that I have seen in a long time. But I don't really see too many funny movies. I love Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson and Will Ferrel. I think most people don't appreciate that we are in a period with a great group of funny men. Kind of like the current Rat Pack of comedy. The Wilson brothers, Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Will Ferrel can not make a movie that doesn't make me laugh out loud.)
